Some New GI Bill Delays
Week of September 04, 2009
Several thousand veterans may get their monthly housing stipends under the New GI Bill later than expected. About two-thirds of the 67,000 remaining unprocessed claims were submitted only in the last 30 days. Claims take 28 days to be processed on average, and beneficiaries have been told to get them in at least a month ahead. However, 20,000 of the unprocessed claims are more than 30-days old. Currently, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) received 236,000 claims related to the Post-9/11 GI Bill and completed action on 169,000. For more information on the New GI Bill, visit the Department of Veterans Affairs website.
